2007 Memory Portraits (Uganda)

  • The Project

    Memory Portaits

The project is based off of Ben Schumaker’s “The Memory Project”, a unique initiative in which artists create portraits for those living in challenging situations around the world. Because those who have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or orphaned usually have few personal keepsakes, the purpose of the portraits is to provide them with a special memory of themselves and to help honor their heritage and identity.

El ShadaiFoster Home Uganda

El-Shadai Foster Home offers shelter, compassion, counseling, and support to approximately 35 children, ages 2 years to 19 years living in Uganda. The children come from different tribal and geographical backgrounds, but all share a similar history of poverty, neglect, abuse, and abandonment. Despite the horrific past many have endured, they now face a promising future.

Founder Sherry Berger spent time with the children of El Shadai during her volunteer work in Jinja, Uganda, 2007. Read Sherry’s Travel Blog April 2007: El Shadai Foster Home
