It’s our 20 YEAR anniversary folks, and we want to put out a project that really makes a difference. This year we offer our creativity, connection, and kindness by sending customized art journals to prisoners.
There are 2.3 million incarcerated in this country, and many who have no connection with outside society. It’s a time of despair and isolation. We want to provide a creative outlet for self-expression, and to encourage opportunities for collaboration and emotional growth. Prisoners with contact with the outside world have a more successful transition, and cope better on release – and are less likely to reoffend.

What happens next?
Once we receive your journal, we’ll photograph it for our online gallery. We’ll then send your journal to a prisoner as an ‘ Art Care Package’. Package contents will vary depending on the prisoner, and art/writing supplies will be included when requested. An online gallery and fundraiser will then take place in Fall 2019 in support of our charity beneficiary, Black and Pink.
Black and Pink is a United States prison abolitionist organization supporting LGBTQ and HIV-positive prisoners. The group organizes a pen pal program, distributes a prisoner-written newspaper to its incarcerated members, provides court accompaniment, and educates people on their rights.
